Fun fact: There are only two “pure bred” (not crossbred with domestic cattle) American bison herds left on Earth. One is based in Yellowstone National Park and the other in Wind Cave National Park.
All other herds are either satellite herds of these two OR possess some level of cattle gene introgression. Basically, unless it’s a satellite herd of those two, all the bison you see elsewhere or even buy for consumption is “beefalo.”
